Quadro's
switching equipment automatically digitally
records all chargeable calls from your line. If an unknown message
appears on your bill, it may be due to a misdialed number or a call made
under unusual circumstances by you or a family member or visitor to your
home. Computer Internet dialers can call 900 or overseas numbers. Also,
calls made through the operator or another carrier while traveling may
take you by surprise. They are not rated with your calling plan and may
include a surcharge.
What
can you do about unfamiliar calls on your phone bill?
- Search
the phone number through a reverse look-up service from websites such
as www.411.ca or www.yellow.ca.
Keep
in mind not all phone numbers are listed. For example, cell phones
will come up as an unknown number on the reverse look up services.
- If you
have dial-up Internet service and have unknown 900 or overseas calls
on your bill, please call technical support to determine if your computer
has a dialer virus responsible for initiating the calls.
- Calls
which appear under an alternative carrier on your bill are typically
collect calls or 3rd party calls made while traveling. Please call the
telephone number listed in that section to question those charges and
then Quadro if necessary.
Protecting
Yourself
- Be
aware of any phones in outbuildings such as barns, sheds and garages
and ensure those buildings are kept locked when not in use.Keep
a long distance log. The best way to track the calls you or your
guests make is to record the long distance numbers called on a calendar
or a special log. Commonly forgotten calls are those not made very
often, for example customer service help lines.
- Add
"900/976 Block" to your line. On your request, we will
block 900/976 calls from being dialed from your phone, and additionally
all international calls, all for free. Quadro automatically blocks
calls to specific overseas countries which are known to be primarily
used for fraudulent purposes. There is a $10 charge to have the
block removed.
- Check
your modem settings regularly if you have dial up Internet service to
ensure you are dialing the access number you intend.
- Read
Internet download instructions carefully to ensure there are no direct
or indirect costs involved. In accepting the warning and "terms
and conditions", you are accepting any long distance charges that
might potentially be associated.
- Keep
track of calling card calls you make and collect calls you accept. If
you receive a collect call from someone you don't know, don't accept
the call.
- Do
not give your calling card number and/or PIN to anyone and protect it
when using public phones (be aware of anyone 'hovering' around you when
entering your information).
Use
Canada Direct
Always
use Canada Direct to place calling card calls. If you have problems
getting through using the Canada Direct Access numbers, try your call
from another location. Never give your credit card information to
an operator.
Internet Fraud
Quadro
reminds its customers to exercise caution
when downloading “adult” content, games, or music
videos from entertainment sites on the Internet. Please visit
our INTERNET
ALERTS page for tips and suggestions on protecting yourself
on the Internet.
Your
Responsibility
